London in a Day

Is it really possible to have a great day out in the capital city if you only have a limited amount of time?  Whilst it’s true that London has an awful lot to offer its visitors and that it would be near on impossible to squeeze everything into one day, it is entirely feasible to see some of the best sights on offer in a 24 hour period.

A little bit of planning goes a long way here.  Before you book your trip, make a list of all the things you want to see and do and prioritise those into attractions you have to see and those you would simply like to see.

Dig out a map or go online and look at those on your ‘have’ to list and their proximity to each other.  Although London is easy to travel across, you will have to account for time spent travelling to and from the different attractions as well as queuing times if you need to buy tickets for entrance on the day.  Make a rough outline of how you expect your day to pan out (not forgetting to include time for eating and refreshment breaks) and this will help you make the most of your limited time.

If the attractions on your list are fairly popular ones, it might be worth considering booking onto one of the red bus tours London offers.  These are a great and convenient way to get from one attraction to the next and the services run fairly regularly.  It also means that if you aren’t familiar with London’s tube system, that you won’t run the risk of heading in the wrong direction or getting lost, wasting precious sightseeing time.

Try and arrive in the city as early as you can to ensure that no time in your day is wasted.  Of course, the best way to make the most of your time in London is to stay in one of the many great hotels in London such as The Montcalm which will offer a pleasant and relaxing place to lie your head after a busy day exploring in the Big Smoke.
